During the early morning hours of 15 January 1974, a man entered 803 North Edgemoor Street and brutally tortured and strangled four members of the Otero family. It was the beginning of a nightmare for the residents of Wichita, Kansas, as the killer began a reign of terror. Using the self-styled initials BTK, which stood for Bind, Torture, Kill, the elusive killer sent numerous letters to the media claiming responsibility for a series of deaths, and demanded attention and recognition for his crimes. However, by 1979 he had vanished. A secret task-force known as the 'Ghostbusters' was setup to apprehend him, but after several years of investigation it ended in failure, and to many it seemed BTK had managed to elude justice. Then in 2004, the killer re-surfaced and began sending a new series of communications in which he claimed more previously unknown victims, leading detectives to suspect he was planning to kill again.
